A clean home is a healthy home but I'm not talking about surface cleaning with poisonous substances like bleach or having some clothes left on the floor. I'm talking about the things you may not think about. Your house may look clean to the eye but it may be filled with toxic chemicals and hidden poisons that can cause uneasiness and even sickness to anybody that lives there. Everyones house contains energy. You know when you walk into a place whether it feels good or not and there are certain things you can do create a loving, healthy ambiance. Cleaning with non toxic cleansers, making some changes to deep clean at the roots and adjustments to avoid toxic energy can turn your house into a home. Cleaning what we don't see may be even more important that cleaning what we do.
1. Clean the air. Get yourself a hepa- filter to purify and clean the air in your home. There are also certain plants that can help oxygenate and purify the air quality and absorb toxins like fermaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene. Let fresh air circulate as well, so that stagnant energy can leave and new can come in. Here are some plants that clean the air- english ivy, rubber tree, bamboo palm, philodendrom, spider plant, red -edged dracaena, and golden pothos.
2. Get your air conditioning and heating filters changed at least once a year. Prevent the build up of dust by vacuuming on a regular basis. Sweeping can just brush more dust up into the air so vacuum or a wet mop is best.
3. Water filters for kitchen, shower and bath. Get a good water filter that takes the chlorine and other toxins that are in tap water out. Your skin is your biggest organ and it absorbs these toxins through your pores. Chlorine and unknown chemicals in our water is known to cause all sorts of diseases and even infertility. One of my favorite water filter companies is Multi Pure
4. Toxic free, natural detergent, dish soap, and of course household cleaners. Your clothes, sheets and your dishes. Three things that you are constantly in contact with should contain no harsh chemicals. If you want an added boost of beautiful scents in your laundry then add some essential oil. White vinegar, baking soda, castile soap and tea tree oil is all you need to clean a house.
5. Be sure to get a healthy bed, not one filled with chemicals and fire retardents that make you sick while you sleep. You spend so much of your time in your bed so if there is one expense that is justified it is to have an organic toxic free mattress.
6. Create a flow in your house, allow nothing to block your path. Windows should be able to open and close and mirrors should not cut off the tallest person in the households head.
7. Allow all 5 elements to be present. Water, fire, earth, metal, and air. Have a water feature, candles, something made of wood, plants, metal and fresh air. Find out your kua number to see where the best place to feature these items is.
8. Display only happy pictures and images. Positive things that you want to create more in your life. Be careful what you display. Try to steer clear of any dead celebrities like Marlyn or Elvis, unless you want to be dead and alone or any sad or even strong woman pictures ALONE! You must have a strong man and woman unless you want to be single. You get my idea, you get what you ask for so happy images.
9. Sage your space regularly especially after negative energy or a fight has happened. Bells also clear, along with bowls of salt water can be placed in any corner of any room to shift the dark shadow to light. Click for previous article I did on how to clear negative energy.
10. No shoe rule. I started this rule when my son was a baby because he was always on the floor and the thought of him licking the same space that someone stepped in dog poop or some other kind of bacteria, terrified me. Taking your shoes off at the door will save you so much time in cleaning. Create a small sign on your door so that everybody knows the rules without you having to explain it every time. When I first started practicing yoga, my teacher Gurmukh would have dinner at her house after class. She explained how even though there were hundreds of people coming in amnd out of her house it was always clean because as yogis we all took our shoes off before entering. It is also a sign of respect.
