TOP 5 QUESTIONS

Q1: Do you follow a special diet/way of eating?

Yes, it's called listening to my body. haha. It has taken me a long time to get here but now I eat intuitively. I listen to what my body craves, eat it, and then listen to its biofeedback. For years I was vegan or vegetarian - first for animal rights reasons then what I thought were health reasons, but looking back I was depleted in so many vital nutrients and my body suffered because of it. But my stance on what I thought was right took precedence. Now I have come full circle and realize that eating as my ancestors did is something we need to return to. More real food, less fake food. More grass-fed, pasture-raised, regenerative farming and holistic grazing are what is best for the planet and all the animals in it. Being a vegetarian does not free you from harming animals, in fact, studies show that a vegan diet can actually kill more animals than an animal-based diet. For example, 50,000-100,000 animals die to grow 25 acres worth of avocados. This is to clear the acreage to the farm. Long story short, my diet is now as close to nature and its cycles as possible.

Q2: Favorite books, podcasts or other resources you refer to for preventative skincare advice?

Nature. I have always followed the natural rhythms of nature. I have always done things my own way and have received a lot of grief for it but now it is so fascinating to see many people finally following suit. I have always said we need to return to ancient wisdom and mother nature - the very foundation that TGS was built on.

Q4: Do you have advice on what to do for melasma? I got it during my second pregnancy.

Yes, I do. I feel that there is a lot of misconception about melasma and what it is, why it happens, and ways to resolve it. As you said, melasma is not uncommon during pregnancy. It is often called a “pregnancy mask” due to the fluctuation in hormones. Other known causes can be genetic, predisposition, diet, birth control, hormone replacement therapy, antibiotics, thyroid issues, iron overload, active skincare, unstable skincare, and overexposure to sun and heat. Melasma is thought to be the stimulation of the cells in the dermal layer, called melanocytes that transfer the pigment melanin to the top layer of the skin. Many people believe that this is accelerated when exposed to ultraviolet light from the sun, which is true to some degree, but let me break it down. The state of your health internally determines the state of your health externally. If your body has a toxic overload then you may not be able to receive the sun’s rays without negative side effects. Lipofuscin accumulation is a type of cellular waste that causes damage in the cell and creates brown pigments on the skin composed of oxidized proteins and heavy metals. lipofuscin lipid peroxidation (oxidative stress) can happen on the skin. The body will eliminate toxins in the body any way it can and our largest organ, our skin, is one of the most common. Nature always has a way to try and heal us and although some believe the sun causes sun spots or melasma, the sun is simply attempting to expose and remove sickness from the body. If your body, especially your liver, hence the term liver spots are full of toxins the sun will draw those toxins out of your body in an attempt to eliminate them from your body and help heal you. The brown spots, appearing as melasma, are the toxins coming out. To make matters worse the common dermatologist and beauty industry recommendations to treat melasma can actually create it and make it worse. Learn more about that HERE.

Things you can do now:

  1. Clean up the inside of your body. Stop eating PUFA polyunsaturated fatty acids. Detox your liver and supplement with Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and glutathione. If able, stop taking unnecessary prescription drugs (birth control, antibiotics, artificial hormones) and over the counters that can disrupt your sensitive body constitution. Instead, opt for herbal replacements.
  2. Stop wearing chemical sunscreens that damage the skin cells and block the production of Vitamin D
  3. Stop using mineral sunscreens filled with unstable oils like hemp, argan, grapeseed, which actually increase and accelerate aging. See the full list HERE
  4. Stop using toxic skincare like chemical retinoids, hydroquinone, and other actives that can make you even more sensitive to UV light. This includes chemical peels and lasers.
  5. Do micro-needling once per month to help break up the enzyme involved in the production of melanin.
  6. Do the Instant Glow Facial Mask 2-3x per week to naturally fade discoloration.
  7. Practice gua sha with TGS Sorceress Stone 2-3 x per week to brighten and smooth your complexion.
  8. Get daily sun that is right for you. Your signal is when your body gets flush, then put a hat on or use a stable sunscreen like THIS

Use organic, natural oils that are perfectly formulated and work with your skin's natural process to heal, not against it. Heal All Oil during the day to protect and even skin tone and Youth Beauty Face Oil at night to regenerate and effectively fade the appearance of any hyperpigmentation.

Q5: I can't decide - should I get the Sorceress Stone or Gold Wand?

I use both for different reasons and the moods that I'm in. They are both effective for different reasons and really it just depends on what you are wanting to achieve.

The Sorceress Stone is a sacred stone that contains over 40 trace elements, (over 20 of these have anti-aging effects) and it’s used for gua sha - an ancient, holistic, massage technique that can help re-educate the facial muscles and retrain the way the skin functions. Healing ultrasonic waves from the stone has the ability to deeply penetrate the skin, accelerating healing, activating cells, and resulting in complete rejuvenation of the skin & face.

The Gold Pulse Firming Face Wand is a battery-operated, electric tool that helps enrich your skin with sonic vibrations (6000 vibrations per minute) that contour, lift and firm the face to give it a more radiant and youthful appearance. This tool does the work for you.

I love and use both for different reasons. I recommend looking at each product's page “target concerns” to learn more and see which one speaks to you and hits more of your personal concerns. The good thing about all of our Ritual Tools is with good care they can last a lifetime so it's a one-time buy/skinvestment with endless use.
